The juice is worth the squeeze: A Quar battle report with Battleground HD rules

A big battle with Quar figures using the detailed Battleground HD rules.

Opposing Crusader and Coftyran forces marched to secure a lone fruit tree on a nearby hill. Mayhem ensued.

From the Coftyran side

The objective on the hill

RCO gun gets set up to cover the road

Coftyran's take some early casualties

But the return fire is effective too

Both forces advance on the hill

Mortar and Torpedo fire suppress the RCO

Coftyran flank squad gets caught in the open

Casualties mount in the woods

But the Crusader sniper is hit

It is a race to the top

Fire and maneuver

Trading fire

Deadly clash at the ridge

Initially the Crusaders have the upper hand

But the flank move is working

RCO is still taking fire

Crusader casualties mount

The push around the flank can't be stopped

One last rush to the hill

The position in the woods is holding on

RCO is abandoned, temporarily

The climax approaches

Crusader CO guns down the Coftyran Commander

Standard bearers fight it out...Coftyran Victory!

Three prisoners are taken by the Coftyran's

Outflanked, the Crusaders pull back

Casualties-

Crusaders: 8 KIA, 3 heavily wounded, 2 wounded, 3 POW = 16

Coftyrans: 7 KIA, 3 heavily wounded, 2 wounded= 12

Very close, the POWs and taking the fruit tree tip the scales in the Coftyran's favor.

April 2026

A very active hobby month. Besides starting on painting more fantasy figures (28mm Halflings), I started making some terrain. Spending is over budget...but some supplies and things were needed. I have also almost finished selling off the last of the 15mm stuff, so I am still very much in the black for the year.

I started on a terrain project. I made a big batch of stackable foam hills. They are very stylized, but I have wanted to try them for a while now.  I hope to continue my terrain making momentum. I am refreshing my trees now. I need to add bigger trees since I switched to mostly 28mm gaming.

Stackable hills

I started work on a new set of fantasy rank/flank rules using colored dice to resolve combat. Few test sessions so far. This is my 3rd set of fantasy rules...all are a mish-mash of rule mechanics that I like.

Death in a Dark Continent at the club

Quar with Chain of Command

A picture dump of another test game of using Chain of Command 2 with my Quar sci fi figures. Things worked out pretty well with some large forces on each side.

I have to get leaders and numbers of command dice balanced. I also have to look at the updated BIG COC since I like running company sized games with all the extras.

I have also started tinkering with my own set using a mash up of other rules...we will see.

In this battle, the Coftyrans won the day by breaking the Crusader morale...but it was a close run thing.
