April 2026

A very active hobby month. Besides starting on painting more fantasy figures (28mm Halflings), I started making some terrain. Spending is over budget...but some supplies and things were needed. I have also almost finished selling off the last of the 15mm stuff, so I am still very much in the black for the year.

I started on a terrain project. I made a big batch of stackable foam hills. They are very stylized, but I have wanted to try them for a while now.  I hope to continue my terrain making momentum. I am refreshing my trees now. I need to add bigger trees since I switched to mostly 28mm gaming.

Stackable hills

I started work on a new set of fantasy rank/flank rules using colored dice to resolve combat. Few test sessions so far. This is my 3rd set of fantasy rules...all are a mish-mash of rule mechanics that I like.

October 2023

I made the club game this month, and made progress on the large batch of 6mm sci fi figures, but nothing complete yet.

I sold off the metal 28mm Quar figures I recently bought....going to reinvest into the plastic figures when they are released.

Limited motivation on the 6mm sci fi right now, so I am going to paint the two new units of Slaughterloo figures during Thanksgiving week as a change of pace.

September 2023

A slower month in the hobby...some continued progress but no major accomplishments. I missed the club day (WW2 Air War game).

I have been slowly working on the 6mm sci fi figures. Need to get motivated on this resurgent project.

I dipped my toes into a new project...28mm sci fi Quar (grim WW1 like anteaters in a perpetual war). I sources some cheap figures, even received over 20 for free from a generous gamer. I then hit pause...the designer is coming out with the range in plastic and they are slightly bigger. I am going to wait until I see them and decide if I will only go with the newer figures.

March 2021

A great hobby month. Lots of painting, sold off 3 projects, play tested some rules, joined a club, and kept spending in check.

I sold off my 1/300 WW2 aircraft, space ships, and 15mm pirates...plus some surplus buildings, magazines, books, and terrain. I am considering what I will do with the money...I want to reinvest in one of my current projects.

I think I will also sell off the large 15mm sci fi collection.

Reserved my room for Historicon in November.

February 2021

A nice hobby month. Finished up the Dark Elf (Spanish) troops and have the Joccian Rats (Scots) primed and ready.

I have linked up online with the South Jersey Gaming Association (thanks for the warm welcome) and home to get in some in person gaming as things get better. For anyone in New Jersey, look them up.

Peter--- one of the fellas is a FOB fan and has been in your Historicon games...this is a good sign!

I have been tempted by some purchases...more Albedo figures, 6mm sci fi...holding out!

May 2018

Finished up basing all the on hand 6mm sci fi forces. This makes it a mature project but here are some holes I can fill over the next two years.

Next up...thinking about what to work on next. I have the huge 15mm fantasy pile of lead...plus two smaller projects. I think I will work on the Wooden Warriors and then the Zombies. This should take me into the Fall and I can decide if I start more finish the 6mm sci fi project, continue the 15mm fantasy project, or begin Project X.

I registered for Historicon in July. At least 6 games in my plans including FOB, Peter's Campaign in a Day, and Combat Patrol.

The whole 6mm sci fi collection

Border Clash

First outing for my 6mm sci fi figures. I am finishing the buildings this eek and then I will finish the bases on all the figures. Played the game using the Panzer Korps WWII rules with minimal modifications. Each unit is a battalion of generally 3 bases. I kept the scenario simple and the number of units low for both sides.

Peoples Liberation Front forces massed in the autonomous zone between the Peoples Democratic Republic of Eden (PDRE) and the Federal Republic of Zaara (FRZ). One PLF battalion seized the border crossing in a nighttime attack, while the second battalion entered the eastern end of the small border town of Garfeld, but could not make headway against a Zaaran Federal Police battalion in western part of the town. Thinking that the PLF forces would attempt to capture the Luther Corp. scientific research station to the north, Zaaran authorities dispatched all available forces to stabalize the situation. Detecting movement across the ill defined border, an armored brigade of PDRE forces moved into position.

Town in the middle, PDRE on the left, FRZ on the right.

PLF forced out of the town by the Federal Police.

Mechanized PDRE forces decide to intervene near the research station.

Zaaran Urban Reaction Forces battalions defend the research station in the foreground.

Federal Police secure the town, but are low on ammo.

FRZ National Guard mech battalion in half-tracks fall back after taking heavy casualties trying to retake the border post. The defending PLF forces included some unexpected heavy weapons.

PDRE mechanized battalion attacks the research station.

After regrouping, the National Guard battalion moves forward to attack the PLF remnants.

Urban Reaction Forces mass against the PDRE mech BN, causing heavy casualties.

PLF falls back leaving over one hundred prisoners.

PDRE mechanized and armor battalions pour fire into Garfeld, but the Federal Police hold on grimly. FRZ cavalry reinforcements join the fray.

URF BNs get the better of the exchanges near the research station.

One last attempt on the right flank, ammo starts running low and the supporting artillery battalion pulls back.

PDRE forces begin to pull back as nigh approaches.

PDRE makes no headway and decides to cover the withdrawal of the PLF forces.

PLF blows up the border post and retire in good order.
