July 2012

Good month for the hobby. Got back into some painting and attended four days at Historicon.

PAINTING
95 x Sci-fi figures: 95 points

I have two more groups of Khurasan sci-fi figures primed plus a few of the new figures from Historicon.
Also have all the vehicles I bought at Historicon primed.

August focus will be on the sci fi figs and these WWII vehicles.

As an added benefit from the days at the convention, my son wants to run a game for kids next year and he has been testing his own WWII rules.

Historicon 2012

My son and I attended a few days at Historicon in Fredericksberg VA.

The convention site seemed great to me with plenty of space, hotels and food close by, and local shopping. 4 to 5 hours away, I will attend again next year.

We each played in a few games. I especially enjoyed  the two Field of Battle games put on by Peter Anderson.
Seargents Miniatures Game...combo board/miniatures game.

Squad Leader Noah

His squad advances on the dug in Germans.

The first casualty.

Our side won!

Kids Wargaming 101

The Generals

VICTORY!

1st Polotsk with Field of Battle

My Russian heavy cavalry advance boldly on the far left.

And tie down a full division plus two brigades of reserve cavalry.

My objective...the well defended church.

The cavalry pulls back but they did delay the enemy and pull the reserves to my side of the table.

A renadier division advances on the church supported by a line of guns.

The stoic Russians absorb the casualties and hit the Bavarian defenders.

The gun line protects the open left flank.

My Grenadiers took the objective and split the enemy line.

With more troops coming up as reinforcements.

A late enmy counter-attack got broken up by concentrated artillery fire.

Meanwhile, on the far flank, the Russians began to envelope the French line.

Cossacks got into the enemy rear and casused havoc.

More troops move into the center to secure the objective.

The height of the advance...nothing between my forward unit and the enemy rear except routing units.

The victory is complete on the opposite flank.

A decisive Russian victory.

Sharpe Practive game in Egypt.

French troops were defending against the British and Mamelukes.

Mameluke troops ready to attack the infidel.

My cavalry charges the French forcing two units to retreat and form square.

Not much success on the other end of the battle.

Last ditch effort to attack the French pillaging the tomb.

Only picture of the Battle of Lecco game using Carnage and Glory rules.

Battle of Malojaroslawez, another Field of Battle game

Cossacks on the flank...these guys got shot to pieces.

My command in the center...Russian infantry advancing onto the field.

I advanced all the way to the town, but could not take the buildings. I did manage to chase away some cavalry with my infantry.

Troops packed into a small area.

Reserves moving to protect the left flank.

French advanced, but suffered severe losses to artillery fire.

End game...a minor Russian victory.

Progress

More progress on my sci-fi troops. I have now completed the expansions to three sets I had painted before. All miniatures are from Khurasan.

This group includes:
Rebels
SEALS
Exterminators
Control Battalion

I like the control battalion troops the best with the odd helmet/mask. The rebels also make for good mid-tech "surviviors".

Good progress this month. I am also priming the last three groups of Khurasan troops on hand. A platoon each of Federals, Neo-Russians, and Neo-Arabs.

Khurasan figures

Some more painted figures from Khurasan...he is producing tons of 15mm figures...faster than I can paint them.

HAZMAT suit armed troops, alien mercenaries, guards, scientists/doctors, and civilians.

June 2012

Painting
31 x 15mm individual figures: 31 Points

I finished the rebasing project (about 500 figures) for all my individually mounted skirmish figures. They are all now textured, flocked, and have a magnetic base.

Games Played
3 x Tomorrow's War
2 x Flying Lead

plus lots of MineCraft!

Mid-year Review
1- Completed all on hand sci-fi figures...until I bought a new batch
2- Completed all the buildings I have bought over three years...except the paper buildings, will sell those
3- No progress on Ancients
4- Did not attend Cold Wars, but have big plans for a 4 day stay at Historicon with my son
5- Tracked spending...down from previous years
6- Less painting production but more disciplined this year

Plans for the rest of the year
1- Finish up all on hand sci-fi figures
2- Attend Historicon
3- Complete a set of desert board tiles
4- Purchase and paint remaining figures from Khurasan
5- Purchase and paint sci-fi vehicles

I am also considering getting a company of British/Canadian troops for IABSM.

Ancients and the expansion of the Katzenstein forces have been pushed to 2013.

A few pics from another game the Junior General set up...I was massacred!
My waves of low quality troops attack the dug in defenders.

POWs tried to escape...and were executed on the docks.

Pinned the front line heavy machineguns...but at a heavy price.

I barely breached the obstacle belt.

I could not exploit the limited success on the flank...he beat me back with a well timed charge into close combat.

Gang Warfare

We are starting a campaign of "generic gang warfare" using individual skirmish figures and Flying Lead rules from Ganesha Games. No real background setting so I can add all kinds of elements to the games.

My son formed an intial band of 8 figures and we played game one.

His gang consisted of:
Noah: Q3, C2, Automatic Rifle+2, Leader, Hero (136)
Josh: Q3, C2, Pistol+1, Molotov Cocktails (46)
Nick: Q4, C3, Automatic Rifle+2 (65)
Nessie: Q4, C3, SMG+1, Second-in-Command (66)
Ready Rodger: Q4, C3, Automatic Rifle+2 (65)
Accurate Andy: Q4, C2, Automatic Rifle+2 (57)
Talkative Tom: Q4, C2, SMG+1 (44)
Slang Sammy: Q4, C2, Shotgun[+2/+1/+0] (38)

Q=quality, C=combat rating
Total Points: 547

The first game involved his group meeting an arms dealer and trying to get the guy back to his truck to pick up weapons. Some local police spotted them after an anonymous tip and the bullets started to fly.
Long road ahead...

The armed men all over the rooftops drew plenty of police attention.

The first two police on the scene survived heavy automatic rifle file...and finshed a dozen doughnuts.

The second patrol team to arrive came under fire and a barrage of molotov cocktails.

Naughty Nick killed one after flanking the duo. He is now a wanted man.

Noah led the attack on the other flank but ended up in cuffs. Luckily, Accurate Andy came up from behind and rescued him before falling to return fire from some federal agents.

Unable to get the arms dealer to his stash, Noah called for a retreat.

The gang pulled back to their hidout leaving Andy in police custody. One officer was killed and the call has gone out for a statewide manhunt. Nessie took off during the battle and can't be found...could she have been an undercover informant?

Post Battle Gang:
Noah: Q3, C2, Automatic Rifle+2, Leader, Hero (136)
Josh: Q3, C2, Pistol+1, Molotov Cocktails (46)
Nick: Q4, C3, Automatic Rifle+2 (65)(69) hatred[cops]

Accurate Andy: Q4, C2, Automatic Rifle+2 (57) ----- PRISONER
Talkative Tom: Q4, C2, SMG+1 (44) -----LIGHT WOUND
Slang Sammy: Q4, C2, Shotgun[+2/+1/+0] (38)
Heather: Q4, C2, Pistols+2 (29)

Q=quality, C=combat rating
