July 2026

A big month for miniatures.

Had a great time at Historicon, thanks to all the GMs. I ran a convention game for the first time...it is a lot of work!

In a major milestone, I finished off selling the 15mm collections. Bitter sweet to move on from the original Katzenstein figures, but it does simplify things with one set of terrain. I may revisit the Kingdom in 28mm later.

Painting focus has been on several smaller catch up items. Quar, some VSF additions, and a batch of kitbashed sci-fi figures in the works.

Continued with tinkering with three sets of home rules. I am also making up up some rocky ground with bark. My big Historicon purchase was a big batch of trees from battlefield Terrain Concepts. Expensive, but they do look great.

The juice is worth the squeeze: A Quar battle report with Battleground HD rules

A big battle with Quar figures using the detailed Battleground HD rules.

Opposing Crusader and Coftyran forces marched to secure a lone fruit tree on a nearby hill. Mayhem ensued.

From the Coftyran side

The objective on the hill

RCO gun gets set up to cover the road

Coftyran's take some early casualties

But the return fire is effective too

Both forces advance on the hill

Mortar and Torpedo fire suppress the RCO

Coftyran flank squad gets caught in the open

Casualties mount in the woods

But the Crusader sniper is hit

It is a race to the top

Fire and maneuver

Trading fire

Deadly clash at the ridge

Initially the Crusaders have the upper hand

But the flank move is working

RCO is still taking fire

Crusader casualties mount

The push around the flank can't be stopped

One last rush to the hill

The position in the woods is holding on

RCO is abandoned, temporarily

The climax approaches

Crusader CO guns down the Coftyran Commander

Standard bearers fight it out...Coftyran Victory!

Three prisoners are taken by the Coftyran's

Outflanked, the Crusaders pull back

Casualties-

Crusaders: 8 KIA, 3 heavily wounded, 2 wounded, 3 POW = 16

Coftyrans: 7 KIA, 3 heavily wounded, 2 wounded= 12

Very close, the POWs and taking the fruit tree tip the scales in the Coftyran's favor.
