February 2025

I ran my first game for the club, a Pulp Adventure "Island of Dread" game with modified 7TV rules. 11 players made for a big game!

Finished off the expansion on my Quar sci fi troops including the first round of vehicles. Such fun figures with plenty more to add.

Attended Cold Wars in Gettysburg...4 total games (+1 GM no show that left 7 players hanging), mostly games run by the HAWKS club using Combat Patrol rules. Cold Wars was added back in the schedule late by HMGS and it showed with the attendance, vendors, and flea market. Kudos to the event staff for pulling it off. Special thanks to the HAWKS club for running great games.

March will see two groups of generic fantasy figures on the painting table as I work through the last of the plastic sets. 41 figures total. We have a vacation at the end of the month so I expect a more limited output.

April will see either some more Quar or a push to finish the plastic fantasy sets.

I may have gotten the bug to do a Victorian Science Fiction and/or imagi-nations project.

September 2024

Although I missed the club game day again this month (I will be there in October!), I did make some nice hobby progress and spent only $11.

I finished the Burrows and Badgers project...until they release more.

I also put together more of the Micro Arts Studio 28mm pre-colored MDF building. They are very nice. I picked up the whole Normandy collection at Historicon. I’ll post a shot of them all when built.

Next up for painting...two boxes of 28mm plastic BEF and WW1 Brits for use in the AVBCW project.

I may try to host a game with that collection using Combat Patrol rules in November or December.

I have also committed to running a Pulp game for the club in Feb.

Pulp Alley- Zombies!

Quick solo game of Pulp Alley...with Zombies.

My survivor had to try to link up with others and make for the bridge.

Disaster! Not a zed killed, three of the survivors lost, and the fate of Miroslav to be determined...did he crawl away from the gathering horde at the last second? We will see in the next episode.

Looks like a short dash to the bridge

Things go south quickly

Miroslav is in trouble

Chainsaw Jim is surrounded

An ugly day in the apocalypse

Pulp Alley- Lagoon of Terrors

Played the next game in the Perilous Island Pulp Alley campaign...the lagoon of terrors.

The Duke's Eastern League narrowly defeated Chanimal's Fiends, 4 to 3.

Three Chanimals fired at The Duke in the last turn after he grabbed the major plot point...but scored only one wound.

Next up...Pulp Alley- Zombies

June 2019 and mid-year review

Great hobby month. Finished off a major project, rebased some figures to match all the rest, played a game and started another. Prepared the next two months of figures with the next project, and got my shopping list for Historicon all set.

Half way through the year. Time for a review of the year so far.
15mm fantasy game with my home brew mash up rules, Piquet/Hostile Realms variant

Humans crushed the Undead on one flank, while the Undead crushed the Elves on the other

Dwarven Pike held the hill against the zombies

Ghosts were the Undead heroes of the day

Last of the AVBCW figures painted and based

Hex 15mm fantasy game set up for next game

72x 28 MM fantasy plastic figures from several different sets, primed and washed, ready to go

Based the last of the Pulp figures

Plans for 2019

1- Complete all on hand AVBCW figures by end of June
--- DONE!

2- Game more than 10 games
--- 4 so far, good start since I have 7 planned for Historicon and 1 on the table at home

3- Attend Historicon
--- All set for next month

4- Keep spending under $1000 (plus Historicon)
--- FAILED! Started a new project...I was doing great.

5- Consider the next major task from the list below:
- Phase II of 6mm SciFi--- bump to 2020
- Phase II of Wooden Warriors--- Will be taken over by the new 28mm plastic fantasy figure project
- Phase II of Zombies--- I want about 20 survivors and 20 more zeds
- Phase II of AVBCW --- I think I will call this done after getting 2 armored cars at Historicon
- Return to 15mm Fantasy--- huge # on hand
- Start Slaughterloo--- same

--- Selected a new project not on the list...28mm fantasy. I will take PH2 of wooden warriors and AVBCW off the list above. Will look for the zombie figures/survivors at Historicon.

Dawn of the Zed with Pulp Alley

I played my first game with the Zombie figures I painted this year. I used the fantastic Pulp Alley rules with some minor modifications, and played solo.

Zombies are 3d6 Brawl, do not dodge, no shooting, and have no other statistics. They do not try to block hits. They move 6" in the direction they are facing at the end of the turn unless a person is in sight within 12"...then they rush and attack. They can't rush through perilous areas (but are otherwise unaffected by perilous areas except blasts and bursts), and can't rush across terrain obstacles (such as walls, fences, hillsides, into buildings). Zombies are Level 2, they get a recovery check when down, they have d6 health. Zeds move last in order of closest to furthest from a survivor. If a zed kills a survivor, place a new zed at start of next turn in same location.

Zombie generation (for a basic scavenge scenario):
1) Start- multiply the value on the bottom left of the 2 fortune cards. Place the zombies randomly.
2) End of Turn- add another set of zombies by multiplying 2 cards.
3) Perilous Areas- Instead of taking hits for failing a challenge in a perilous area, add a number of zombies in place of the number of hits on the card. Put in contact with the figure.
4)Plot Point- For every die that fails during a plot point attempt, place a zombie 6" away.
5)Noise (shoot, shout, explosions...)- add 1 card draw worth at the table edge closest to the sound.

Plot Points: There are 5 plot points in the scavenge scenario. The main point generates a reward and a fellow survivor that can be recruited or some other special reward such as a vehicle, gadget, special item (such as medical supplies that lets a survivor recover after a mission). Other plot points get a regular reward card. All must be held by a surviving member at the end of the game.

Encountering other survivors: When encountering a random survivor, play a challenge card. If the player passes the challenge, the survivor is not hostile. Play another card, if passed, the survivor is friendly and joins the group. Hostile survivors will fight the closest character or zed, and attempt to take plot points. Neutral survivors will attempt to flee the board, attacking zeds on the way. Friendly survivors become player controlled. Draw a card to determine the random level of the survivor.

Horror Checks: (roll health check)
1) when activating in contact with a number of zeds > character level
2) when activating with >10 zeds on the board
3) when failing a challenge for a perilous area
4) when a friendly character is killed by zeds within 12" and line of sight
---roll health check to recover 1 effect at end of turn with 4+ on d6

Need to look at the rules for NPCs, bystanders, and areas of control from Vice Alley.

Looks simple, only a lone zed in sight...over the stream.

Checking out the orchard, more zeds show up.

Killing one, Miroslav heads for the house. He finds a fellow survivor and they dodge around the growing threat.

The zeds have the scent and are starting to mass.

Miroslav grabs some more supplies near the woodshed, while his new friend is torn apart just after picking up some other gear.

Miroslav Silak survived another day. He did not even get the name of the guy he met in the house. He killed 1 zed, gained 1 XP, 1 Rep, and 1 Backup. At the end, there were 15 zeds on the table.

Miroslav Silak, Level 4- d10 health
Shoot: 3d8
Brawl: 3d10
Dodge: 3d10
Might: 2d8
Finesse 2d10
Cunning: 3d10
-Moxie: ignore multiple combat penalties when brawling
-Quick dodge: 1/turn, convert to 5d8 dodge
-Intrepid: may dodge in any direction
Gear: none
Rewards: 1 XP, 1 Rep, 1 Backup

January 2017

Fantastic start to the new year. I have tried to focus on getting 30-60 minutes a day dedicated to the hobby...painting, prepping figures, tinkering with rules, blogging, and of course, gaming. This has improved my motivation and output. The imagi-nation expansion is ahead of schedule.

PAINTING
48 x  15mm imagi-nation artillery figures and 12 guns: 60 points

120 x 15 mm infantry: 120 points
TOTAL: 180 points
In Progress: 16 x mounted leaders; 30 28mm Pulp figures

Next up: prep the 25 or so cavalry units

Fresh troops hit the field (except that the field seems to be covered in Orcs and Dwarves so they have to get their picture taken on the ready table.
4 field batteries, 2 howitzer batteries

GAMES
1 fantasy game

A fantasy game in progress with my Battlelore adaptation. I made my own dice using the left over wood blocks from when I made the LSNC dice. Simple pleasures.

Total for the year: $0

Budget: $100 under budget, Plan: <$100 per month; on target
