First Song of the Splintered Lands Battle

My son and I played the first game using the great Song of the Splintered Lands animal figures from Splintered Light Miniatures. Rules are based on Song of Blades and Heroes from Ganesha Games.

These are my favorite figures...see my earlier post about giving away a few of my unpainted samples.
The figures are often based on characters from Brian jaques REDWALL series of books...we are watching the cartoon series together and I am reading the 20 books in the series.

The scenario called for two opposing forces to seach the woods for two idols (Zuni Indian fetishes I got from my inlaws for Christams). The idols are protected by some very unpredictable bear warriors that could join either side or remain neutral.

The battleground

His hare warriors advanced in two groups vs the rats and weasels

A hare prepares for a bold jumping attack against one bear guarding the otter idol...an epic fail would see the hare squashed by the mallet wielding bear...and then put in the stew pot

A bear joined the hares on the other side of the field and caused havoc amongst the weasels

The first kill in the game saw this weasel whacked by the mace weilding bear

The rats finally get organized and take the otter idol

The last weasel (I named him Jorge) fights against the odds

Despite lossing their leader, the rats escape with an idol

Jorge the Weasel lasts for a while and takes out 2 of his 4 attackers before falling

End game...we called it a draw since the rats escaped with one idol and a hostile bear guarded the last idol (the badger) despite the rats/weasels taking heavier casualties

More Song of the Splintered Lands

I finished up 4 bears from Splintered Light Miniatures to complete this collection. I now have one of each animal pose. I had missed when the bears were released and just found them a few weeks ago.

The SLM figures are my favorites in my collection. My paint job can't do them justice. For anyone with kids, these would be a great way to introduce the hobby.

Deciding if I will place one more order with Khurasan for figures and some vehilces or start my WW2 Brits.

Got in a Force on Force game with my son using his company vs some of the Khurasan Federal Army troops.

Song of the Splintered Lands

I have brought another project to maturation. The Song of the Splintered Lands range is from Splintered Light Miniatures http://www.splinteredlightminis.com/ . I am using the Song of Blades and Heroes rules from Ganesha Games http://www.ganeshagames.net/ . They have a specific supplement for these figures that is fantastic but I will modify the setting some to allow for more mixed warbands.

I have one of each of the figures from the whole range...188 figures total.

My painting skills are poor...these are actually super figures. Clean castings with lots of character. I strongly recommend them.

I made an otter fort for the figures and will add other terrain as the mood strikes. My son wants a fort for his hares. I am thinking about a small keep inside a protective hedge wall.

Here is a picture of all the figures together:

Note on basing-- 20mm round 1.5mm Likto bases plus a stick on magnetic bottom. Texture with Vallejo grey pumice mixed with craft brown paint. Green static grass and edge with course sand.

Splintered Lands update

Raccoons

A band of Roudy Raccoons. I like the fish standard and the whicker shields. The guy with the hand crossbow and tricorne is a great figure too.

Mice

Mighty Mouse warriors!

Came out better than I expected, the white with bright red and blue gives them a sharp look.

Weasels

A new batch of figures for Song of the Splintered Lands. Weasels in action.

Foxes

A band of fox warriors for Song of Blades and Heroes.

Squirrels

Next batch of the Splintered Light figures. Need to get these guys on the table.

Rats

SL Rats- big band of rats. Accidentaly painted the possum up as a rat. These guys have some weak fighters and some tough hombres...plus a standard bearer, shaman, and assasin.

Badgers

SL Badgers - tough looking guys that carry big weapons. The fully armored badger on the right looks like a tank.

Wolverines

Splintered Light Wolverines - These are the most powerful characters using the Song of the Splintered Lands for the Song of Blades and Heroes rules by Ganesha games.

I made them in "kingly" purple.

Splintered Light Hares

Hares from Splintered Light Miniatures for use with Ganesha Games "Song of Blades and Heroes" rules. These have become my standard skirmish rules for all genres.

My son picked the hares as his warband, and selected the brown uniform with glor/blue shields. I added the carrot banner for flavor. The hares have the ability to make a leaping attack.

Otter Fort

The first of my homemade terrain pieces for the Song of the Splintered Lands figures by Splintered Light Miniatures. The mound is styrafoam covered with spakle. Sticks and briars are from the yard, and flock is Gale Force 9 grit and static grass.

Otters

I have finished my first group of Splintered Light fantasy animal figures. Love these sculps and otters are my favorite animals. They will be used with the Song of Blades and Heroes rules from Ganesha Games.


I special ordered one of each figure in the range so no two figures are alike. Next up are the hares for my son and rats as enemies.

July is turning into a great painting month.

Splintered Light Miniatures

I mentioned my foray into fantasy miniatures in my last post. I have bought figures from Splintered Light Miniatures for use with the Song of Blades and Heroes skirmish rules.

The rules are fantastic and they have several modules for playing various genres, including modern combat.
These are great rules for teaching a child how to wargame...simple, but with good depth. The "traits" that can be added to the base figure stats give lots of character.

I bought one of each of the Druid's Children and the Flowering...these are anthropomorphic animals with weapons.
The figures are in various sizes based on the animals represented...12mm for a rat, to 25mm or so for a badger. They fit nice with 25mm figures.
